About the Artists:
Jan Berryman, Acrylic/Mixed Media Artist Jan enjoys exploring abstract and impressionistic themes in her paintings and takes inspiration from the seasons and landscape of Australia.
Colour and texture help her tell the story or evoke a particular feeling or mood. Acrylic is her medium of choice, often combined with a variety of found objects like banana fibre, silk or rice paper which offer an organic feel to Jan’s paintings.
Lance Boucaut, Acrylic Painting
Lance loves to paint inner-city Brisbane streetscapes, particularly the charming older houses, with vibrant exaggerated colours and texture, using a broad-brush loose technique. Figures in the paintings add character and interest, and help to tell the story the painting depicts.
David Cross, Oil Painting
David is inspired by what he sees, using light as a catalyst and how it imparts on the subject matter..
In considering ‘Scapes & Scopes’, the theme for this exhibition, David considered how his painted landscapes, seascapes, figures and grounds would satisfy the theme of the show. When light hits an object, whether it be glass, metal, water, the human form ro the everyday environment, it reflects, refracts, casts shadows and even is absorbed. “What I have focused on for this exhibition is how I interpret this light as it reveals colour and form. The resulting body of work reinforces this catalyst and in some cases takes it even further.”
Grace Cross, Mixed Media/Textile Artist
Grace’s catalyst/inspiration for this exhibition is LACE SCAPES and she calls this body of work, “DELICATE CONNECTIONS“. Creating mixed media and textile artworks of layered and textural compositions enhanced by colour and embellished with layers of stiching, fabric, paper, beads and lace. From Family keepsakes enhanced with love, an ancient craft of ornate threads, time washed layers of memories and hands, it is Grace’s hope that he artworks exhibited here facilitate to frame the past and connect memories; the delicate connections of lace and mark making with stitch.
Carol Owens, Acrylic/Mixed Media Artist
Carol says Art and creativity are ‘under her skin.’ This New Farm artist’s current artistic focus is painting and she enjoys experimenting with acrylic and mixed mediums to develop composition and themes. Carol’s paintings typically involve making sense of our connection with self, others and our environment. She communicates these conceptual themes in abstract or impressionistic paintings of mindscapes, joyful glimpses of everyday life and people in outback landscapes.
Gene Wijffels, Oil Painting
Having grown up in the ‘back of Bourke’, I am fascinated with our outback landscapes. To convey the heat, the dust and loneliness, I use aerial perspectives, and paint thickly with palette knife for texture and colour
