David Cross
David Cross is an award winning Visual Artist and a Visual Art Educator for 40 years with a Masters Degree in Art from the USA. Retired from Head of Dept Visual Art duties, David is currently concentrating on his passions of drawing and oil painting.
David is inspired by what he sees, using light as a catalyst and how it imparts on the subject matter. Subjects are inspired from his world travels, his local Moreton Bay environment and the human figure. These images are transformed on canvas and/or paper, letting colour, tone and texture exuberate his starting point of imagery.
David’s professional art practice almost exclusively entails painting in oils as he believes the richness and longevity of colour is important when applying paint to original lasting artworks. In his new artworks, David pushes the boundaries of his oil painting by visually layering glass and light and textures that enhance the images emerging in oil paint. Reflection plays an important role in this process.
