Grace Cross
Inspired by the layers of nature that surround us, award winning Queensland textile artist Grace Cross holds a Bachelor of Science, in Textile Design and has spent the past 30+ years teaching Visual Art in High Schools here in Queensland.
“Nonrepresentational in form, each of my mixed media/textile works is a personal reflection using the formal elements of the visual language, specifically line, shape, color, texture, and composition. Texture is the primary focus, embellished by layering washes of colour ,stitching, fabric, paper, beads and other tactile elements.
My catalyst is nature, inspired by the lands of Australia and beyond— inspiring my mixed media/textile artworks. I am developing my own personal vocabulary of marks that journey through my artworks. Organic in character, these marks help to compose my creative form of expression.”
Grace creates mixed media & textile artworks with a fusion of layers of fibres, fabric, paper, rusting, stitching, beading and/or embellishments. Her artworks are in collections here in Australia, the USA and Internationally. Grace has been honoured with numerous awards and her work accepted into many juried exhibitions such as below:
